Workshop Summary:

We can build reading habits that support comprehension through the practice of Close Reading.

Research shows that the complexity of text students read is the greatest predictor of success in college and those entering the workplace. Unfortunately, many students struggle with complex texts written at their grade level as defined by the core standards and are grade levels below in reading comprehension.

It's time to close the READING GAP!

Feel equipped to deliver Close Reading Lessons.

Students who struggle to read usually have life-long consequences and end up in the cycle of frustration and low self-esteem. Learn to provide intentional and structured reading instruction to increase reading proficiency for all students.

Explore a variety of supports and strategies to help students make the leap in their reading levels.

When students begin to see that they can become stronger readers, we change their outcomes and their lives. Learn how to teach students to read text closely, cite textual evidence when writing or speaking, and support conclusions.

Provide scaffolding for Close Reading

As we move students into more challenging texts, we must provide support for gaps that occur between students' current level of knowledge and skill and our state standards.

Experience reading achievement and scores increase while students build their confidence.

Learn how to give students the deliberate instruction needed to create positive learning experiences and experience growth.

In this full-day virtual live workshop, you and your staff will learn:

Intentional selection of text to meet student needs

We'll cover how to provide opportunities for students to engage in a variety of texts to support their learning.

Structured Close Reading Lessons for implementation

We'll show you how to teach close reading and provide you with ready-made, grade-level specific lessons you can implement immediately.

How to implement and maximize the provided Close Reading resources

We'll walk you through our Close Reading resources and give you practical ways to implement the provided lessons, activities, and videos in your instruction.
