Workshop Description:

If we want all students to thrive in our classrooms, we must understand how trauma affects learning and utilize Trauma-Informed Practices to help students succeed.

As teachers, we often feel ill-equipped to meet the wide variety of needs our students bring with them to our classrooms every day. Research shows that 46% of students under 17 have experienced a traumatic event and that trauma can alter the development of the brain and affect student learning, behavior, and emotional regulation.

When we infuse Trauma-Informed Practices in our classrooms, we can cultivate a supportive and trusting environment where our students are motivated to learn, demonstrate grit and nurture a resilient mindset. In this workshop, we give you the strategies you need to face these challenges and improve your students' overall well-being.

Imagine a school where educators:

Feel equipped to meet the needs of all students.

Students come to school with their trauma, and it can be challenging to know what they need to be successful. By understanding how trauma impacts students' brains, educators can feel empowered to use Trauma-Informed strategies to care for students and help them succeed.

Utilize positive discipline systems

Trauma plays a role in student behavior and how they respond to intervention. Educators can build positive discipline systems based on restorative practices that address and modify behavioral challenges in the classroom.

Provide students with tools to combat the impacts of trauma

Through explicit social-emotional instruction, students can develop stronger relationship skills, self-regulation techniques, and emotional awareness.

Cultivate a safe space for students.

Educators can fully support students by cultivating a classroom that is caring and inclusive. By learning about the impact of trauma, educators can act with compassion and sensitivity, while still holding high expectations for students.

In this workshop, you and your staff will learn:

A structured approach for how to implement Trauma-Informed Practices with your students.

We'll cover how to work with students that have faced trauma and the strategies to help them thrive academically and emotionally in the classroom.

Strategies to cultivate safety and trust, even with your most challenging students.

We'll teach you how to utilize social-emotional tools to support your students' well-being and create a climate of compassion and inclusion.

How to implement and maximize the provided Trauma resources.

We'll walk you through our Trauma resources and give you practical ways to implement the provided lessons, activities, and videos in your instruction.
