Workshop Description:

As we work everyday with co- and extracurricular athletics and activities for our students, we need to remember to focus on the development of the whole department, including strategies and resources. As our educational journey continues from year to year, we have to continuously review our practices to ensure our leaders are meeting the needs of our students at all times. This workshop will open with a high-level overview of best practices, but by the end of the session, participants will have real-time solutions in hand to implement the next school day. The focus of this workshop will be the overall development of your department from top to bottom, start to finish, personnel and protocols.

Building your Athletic and Activity Department Fundamentals of Leadership Philosophy of Educational based Athletics and Activities Development of High School and Middle School Clubs and Teams Meetings (preseason, parent, coach, postseason, evaluations) Developing Roles and Responsibilities

Coaches (screening, hiring, retaining, removing) Professional Boundaries Work-life balance

ALL are welcome, including anyone in a non-administrative position!

​Participants will earn .5 credit (7.5 hours) toward license renewal!

This workshop ALSO counts for step advancement in Clark and most Nevada School Districts! & In CCSD, those in non-administrative licensed positions may count this workshop for license renewal AND ALSO 2.5 CUs - THOSE IN NON-ADMINISTRATIVE

POSITIONS EARN BOTH!

(unlimited CUs in this category for those in non-administrative positions)

In CCSD, administrators and professional-technical administrators may count this workshop for license renewal OR 2.5 hours toward step-advancement - not both for administrators. (maximum of 30 hours per advancement cycle for administrators in this category)!

Washoe County participants will be required to also register for this course in "MyPGS" in order to receive in-service credit toward salary advancement.

BIOGRAPHIES OF PRESENTERS

Xavier Antheaume

Director of Athletics

Clark County School District

Xavier Antheaume currently serves as one of the Directors of Athletics within the Clark County School District. Mr. Antheaume has been with the Clark County School District since 1999 beginning his career as a Physical Education teacher at Paradise Professional Development School. After two years he opened Brian Cram Middle School as a Physical Education teacher and Head Boys' Basketball coach. Three years later he was asked to transfer to Liberty High School where he taught Physical Education and was the Head Varsity Boys' Tennis coach, assistant Varsity Boys' Basketball coach, and Athletic Director. He was asked to transfer to Chaparral High School where he had a ten-year tenure as a teacher, department chair, coach, athletic director, only dean of 2,500 students, and assistant principal. Mr. Antheaume was then promoted to his current position in 2020.

Mr. Antheaume earned his Bachelor of Science Degree and Master of Education in Physical Education. He is a Certified Master Athletic Administrator and serves as the Executive Director of the Nevada Athletic Directors Association, serves as a liaison to the NIAA Board of Control, and is currently a Board member of the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association.

Tim Jackson

Director of Athletics

Clark County School District

Tim Jackson currently serves as the Director of Athletics with the Clark County School District. Mr. Jackson has been with the Clark County School District since August of 1995 and fervently believes athletics and activities are extensions of the classroom that create a well-rounded educational experience. Mr. Jackson began teaching and coaching at the middle school level and moved to high school early in his career. Mr. Jackson served as an English teacher, assistant principal, and an administrator in the central office.

Mr. Jackson earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in English, Master of Science in Education and Leadership. He has served on the NIAA Board of Control, the national NIAAA Certification Committee, and is a Certified Master Athletic Administrator. He was recently named Bruce D. Whitehead Distinguished Service award recipient for dedication to student athletics and activities by the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association.
