Workshop Summary:

The workshop “Close Reading & Text Dependent Questioning” is designed to provide educators with valuable insights and strategies to help struggling readers improve their reading comprehension and build important reading habits. Research has shown that the complexity of texts students read is the greatest predictor of success in both college and the workplace. Unfortunately, many students struggle with texts written at their grade level, resulting in lower reading comprehension levels.

In this workshop, teachers will learn the practice of Close Reading and how to implement it effectively to increase reading achievement.

You’ll learn how to:

  • Select text to provide opportunities for students to engage in a variety of texts to support their learning
  • Teach close reading  and provide you with ready-made, grade-level specific lessons you can implement immediately
  • Implement and maximize the provided Close Reading resources
  • Increase reading proficiency for all students
  • Provide support to close the gap between students’ current reading skills and state standards

As all Pre-K12 educators teach reading in their content areas, this workshop will help you gain valuable insights and strategies for assisting struggling readers in enhancing their reading comprehension and developing crucial reading habits. Research indicates that the complexity of the texts students read, within all academic disciplines, is a significant predictor of success in both college and the workplace. Unfortunately, many students encounter challenges with texts at their grade level, leading to lower levels of reading comprehension. All attendees will gain proficiency in the practice reading strategy instruction and learn effective implementation techniques to boost reading achievement as we understand, the skill to read, comprehend, and articulate concepts and ideas is crucial across all subjects.
