In this 3 hour zoom workshop, participants will leave with a greater understanding of what they are observing and a booklet containing math recommendations with:
- Specific examples of linkages from fractions to decimals & algebra
- Specific examples for concept development
- Development of specific strategies/procedures for operations
- Specific simple, straight-forward examples to be used with initial instruction to build success on success
- Specific scaffolding examples
- Specific strategies or procedures that students should have in their notes with an example to help them study
- A sample unit test that is designed to set students up for success
Other math content strategies, such as using definitions, looking for patterns, comparing and contrasting, thinking out loud, using models, correct notation and the importance of decision-making when doing math, will also be addressed.
Additionally, this workshop will strongly suggest that rather than identifying a date to observe instruction based on a calendar, school administrators consider scheduling observations based on the introduction of new content they are familiar with so they are better able to address math content strategies in their formal and informal evaluations that result in improved math instruction and increased student achievement.
