Workshop Description:
This workshop for educators in grades K-12 will address real-time solutions on how to bridge the gap between Chronic Absenteeism and student behavior while ensuring all students learning objectives are met.
Chronic Absenteeism is defined as a pattern of regularly missing school and has emerged as a significant issue in education. Chronic Absenteeism encompasses a consistent pattern of missing school that has detrimental effects on academics, behavior, and student well-being. Addressing chronic absenteeism requires assistance from local partners and community stakeholders, families, and targeted interventions. Additionally, proper reporting and strategies are a key component in assisting chronic absenteeism.
Learning Outcomes:
Educators will learn procedures regarding attendance codes and improving behaviors.
Educators will learn strategies that are engaging and interactive while ensuring students are safe and have proper resources for success.
Educators will learn proper procedures that are utilized from the Office of Attendance Enforcement so that they can reinforce and support such with students within the classroom.
As educators utilize strategies and resources to assist with Chronic Absenteeism, they need to be mindful of the student as well as the professional obligations of the teacher and the school community to help all students and ultimately increase achievement. Achievement cannot be improved, and achievement gaps cannot be closed, if the student is not in school.
