Alex Kajitani is the 2009 California Teacher of the Year, and a Top-4 Finalist for National Teacher of the Year.  He is the author of several books, including Owning It, which was named “Recommended Reading” by the U.S. Department of Education. He also has a new book out, for new teachers, titled “You’re a Teacher Now! What’s Next?” and it's getting rave reviews.

Alex is known around the world as “The Rappin’ Mathematician, has a popular TED Talk, and was honored at The White House. He was also featured on The CBS Evening News, where Katie Couric exclaimed, “I LOVE that guy!” (and you will too!).

Workshop Description:

Twenty years ago, Alex Kajitani was a struggling new teacher in one of California’s poorest neighborhoods. His students seemed unmotivated, unengaged and uninterested in what he was teaching. Demoralized and desperate, he set out on a journey to turn his class, and his life, around.

Today, Alex holds the title of California Teacher of the Year and Top-4 Finalist for National Teacher of the Year, 2009, and is lauded for his motivation, innovation and “real talk” on what it takes to succeed. Alex’s journey – from frustrated new teacher to being honored at The White House – is one he now shares across the country, to inspire teachers of all levels to be highly effective and LOVE what they do.

In this 7.5 hour virtual workshop experience (split up over three high-energy sessions during the course of the day), Alex will show Nevada educators exactly how they can:

  • Engage students with high-leverage strategies that have a big impact on learning, and can be implemented immediately.
  • Manage the classroom environment with confidence and creativity, so students learn in an atmosphere of positivity and safety.
  • Create a classroom culture where student thrive.
  • Interact with colleagues, and care for themselves in ways that are productive and healthy, and avoid mid-year burnout!

Throughout each session, Alex tells refreshingly honest stories of his experiences as an educator today, and interweaves them with proven strategies that can be implemented immediately to make a true and lasting impact on students’ lives.

ALL are welcome, including anyone in a non-administrative position!
