renewal AND ALSO 2.5 CUs - THOSE IN NON-ADMINISTRATIVE POSITIONS EARN BOTH!

(unlimited CUs in this category for those in non-administrative positions)

In CCSD, administrators and professional-technical administrators may count this workshop for license renewal OR 2.5 hours toward step-advancement - not both for administrators.

(maximum of 30 hours per advancement cycle for administrators in this category)!

Washoe County participants will be required to also register for this course in "MyPGS" in order to receive in-service credit toward salary advancement.

I have worked as a classroom teacher K- 8. I earned my B.S. and M.S. from Portland State University, Portland, Oregon. After several years of teaching, I pursued a full-time doctoral degree at Oregon State University, Corvallis, Oregon and concurrently finish my administrative credentials at the University of Oregon, Eugene, Oregon. Since that time, I have had the opportunities to work as an Assistant Principal at the Middle School and High School levels, an Elementary School Principal, a Director of Curriculum and Instruction, a Professional Development Specialist, and an Assistant Professor of Education. Currently, I am an Educator Advocate Consultant for The Center of Teacher Effectiveness. My doctoral research investigated the classroom environments in Whole Language and Judicious Discipline classrooms. I was deeply honored to present my research on Judicious Discipline at the 1st China-U.S. Conference on Education in Beijing, China.

Workshop Description:

Classroom Management has been rated as the most important variable to building and maintaining a high achieving classroom. The “lack of” student behavior and classroom management competencies cause educators to have high levels of stress and one reason why educators leave the profession. Whether you are the new or seasoned educator, highly effective student behavior and classroom management strategies can make a significant difference for teacher and student success. The Time To Teach Student Discipline and Classroom Management Model consists of evidence-based strategies that bolster student achievement, reduce student discipline challenges 70%-90%, generate positive learning environments, and lessen an educator’s stress level. In this interactive, lively workshop session, educators will walk away with vigorous and proven strategies for successful implementation of student discipline and classroom management in their classrooms and schools. These strategies will provide educators with a solid foundation for Appropriate Student Behaviors, Accurate and Timely Consequences, Self-Control Techniques, Classroom Designs, and Student Teacher Relationships that Motivate and Engage Student Learning.
