Workshop Description:

Night 1: Introduction to Leadership SEL

Leaders gain an understanding of the complexity causing stress and burnout in schools, and an overview of the basic SEL practices.

Night 2: The Job Demands & Resources Model

Leaders gain an understanding of the Job Demands and Resources Model and its implications on and applications to their leadership practice and teacher retention.

Night 3: Developing Support for Others

Leaders gain an understanding of more advanced personal SEL skills and specific skills that can help leaders support the most common emotional states of teachers.

BIOGRAPHIES OF PRESENTERS

Dr. James Bailey

Dr. James Bailey’s career has encompassed teacher, principal, school turnaround, principal consultant and superintendent roles. His deep-seated commitment to supporting school leaders led to him training as an executive coach and founding the DailySEL.com a consulting firm focused on supporting leaders’ SEL. He recently published a book from Corwin Press called The Daily SEL Leader: A Guided Journal with co-author Randy Weiner. James has a PhD in Educational Leadership and has served on the faculty of Walden University since 2015 in educational leadership.

Randy Weiner

Randy Weiner has worked in education, ed tech and consulting throughout his career. Along with his Brass Tacks Innovations consulting firm partner, Dr. James Bailey, Randy co-authored “The Daily SEL Leader: A Guided Journal“. He’s also co-founded Urban Montessori Charter School (UMCS) in Oakland, CA, and BrainQuake, a three- time U.S. Department of Education Small Business Innovation Award winner. A Teach for America alum, Randy taught for five years in Oakland and Madagascar, and holds degrees from Middlebury College and Stanford University.

ALL are welcome, including anyone in a non-administrative position!

Participants will earn .5 credit (7.5 hours) toward license renewal!

This workshop ALSO counts for step advancement in Clark and most Nevada School Districts!

In CCSD, those in non-administrative licensed positions may count this workshop for license renewal AND ALSO 2.5 CUs - THOSE IN NON-ADMINISTRATIVE POSITIONS EARN BOTH!

(unlimited CUs in this category for those in non-administrative positions)

In CCSD, administrators and professional-technical administrators may count this workshop for license renewal OR 2.5 hours toward step-advancement - not both for administrators.

(maximum of 30 hours per advancement cycle for administrators in this category)!

Washoe County participants will be required to also register for this course in "MyPGS" in order to receive in-service credit toward salary advancement.
