About the Event

"Social and Emotional Learning Essential Lessons for Student Success”

Workshop Description:

If we're going to have high academic expectations of our students, then we must equip them with strategies to navigate feelings like stress, conflict, and failure.

It’s extremely difficult to teach rigorous instruction and redirect challenging student behaviors at the same time. But imagine how challenging it is for our students to focus on their learning without the tools they need to self-regulate their own emotions and behaviors?

Studies show that happiness and well-being are closely correlated with productivity and performance. This means that as educators, it is our responsibility to invest in both our students’ academic and personal development.

It's time to cultivate classroom environments where students:

Feel equipped to advocate for their emotional needs.

Sometimes, student behavior can stem from a sense of confusion and frustration about what they're feeling. Teaching students how to identify what may be causing stress, fear, or discouragement can help them take steps to feel calm and understand what they need to feel better.

Develop skills to self-regulate their emotions and behaviors.

Once students understand their emotions, we can direct them toward actions they can initiate to get their brains back to positive thought patterns – improving their overall well-being and academic performance.

Actively reflect on the thoughts and actions they are reinforcing.

Provide students with strategies to notice their thought patterns and then reframe their thinking so that they can get their minds back to positive and take action to improve their situation.

Intentionally build relationships with their peers.

Learn how to model conversations and collaboration behaviors that can improve student productivity, collective teamwork, and overall student learning.

In this full-day virtual live workshop, you and your staff will learn:

Structured concepts for how to explain social-emotional research to students

We'll cover how to talk to students about what social-emotional needs are, why they're important, and what research says about them.

Student Self-Regulation Practices

We'll show you how to teach student self-regulation practices to guide students in taking ownership of their emotions, leading to overall wellness and academic success.
