Workshop Summary:
This workshop is designed to address a recurring challenge in the educational system – the gaps in portraying student proficiency due to current conventional grading approaches. Often, such approaches relying largely on numbers and percentages obscure the true capacity of our students, thereby limiting their development by depriving them of crucial feedback.
That’s where Standards-Based Grading comes in. Standards-Based Grading is a system that clearly identifies the standards students have mastered, tracks specific progress, and illustrates the big picture for long-term development.
In this Strobel Education workshop, we show you how to implement Standards-Based Grading in your classroom and school so that you can collect data that’s meaningful and paints a clear picture of student achievement.
Join us in identifying academic growth areas and shaping them into pathways for improvement utilizing our Standards-Based Grading module as an agent of change for both instruction methods and student performance. Revolutionize student assessment and spur exponential improvement by telling the whole picture of student achievement clearly and effectively.
All Pre K-12 educators strive to develop assessments that are seamlessly woven into the instructional process. This workshop will help every educator design lessons and assessments to pinpoint mastered standards, track specific progress, and present a comprehensive overview for long-term development to give a clearer picture of a student’s learning progress. No matter the content area, all educators endeavor to help students participate in metacognitive activities to enhance their comprehension and take greater responsibility for their learning. As standards are frequently explained in a language accessible to students, their involvement in the learning process intensifies. This transition redirects the focus from earning points for a grade to achieving a thorough understanding of a concept. This strategy involves encouraging students to "self-assess" their mastery of learning targets. This not only offers valuable insights for the teacher but also prompts students to pose more insightful questions as they are more involved with their learning. All participants will learn strategies to help adjust instruction in real-time to help bridge learning gaps and improve student performance.
