About the Event
Dr. Emma Gibbs
Dr. Emma Gibbs is a Strobel Education consultant who provides professional development for teachers. As an educational consultant, Dr. Gibbs strives to provide teachers the knowledge and tools they need to implement highly effective and student-centered instruction in their classroom.
Dr.Gibbs is a secondary and higher education English instructor from Central Kentucky. Dr. Gibbs earned her Bachelors's and Master's Degrees in English and Secondary Education from the University of Kentucky. Dr. Gibbs went on to earn her Doctorate in English Pedagogy with a K-12 Literacy specialization from Murray State University. Dr. Gibbs is an experienced teacher who has taught in the secondary and higher education classroom.
ALL are welcome, including anyone in a non-administrative position!
Participants will earn .5 credit (7.5 hours) toward license renewal!
This workshop ALSO counts for step advancement in Clark, Washoe and most Nevada School Districts!

Workshop Description:
When you implement a flipped classroom model, you will fuel student curiosity, creativity, and academic growth. Your students will have the opportunity to explore their interests, engage with class content and skills, and demonstrate their understanding with creative and multimodal submissions.
Give your student ownership! Let their curiosity lead them through content by using class time for collaboration, inquiry, and project-based learning. Student will take ownership of their learning, reflect on their own assessment data and feedback, and be an active part of the learning process.
The lecture, notes, and assessment process of instruction is inefficient, unengaging, and allows for students become passive learners. It is your time to create the class you have always imagined! A class that is overflowing with discussion, participation, and collaboration. Are you ready to flip your class and let students take the lead?

Tired of giving the same lecture in every class? Ready to evolve your teaching style to engage students and promote active leaning?
Learning is not a one size fits all model! It is time to move away from the traditional broadcast model of teaching and implement an active, student-centered model. The Flipped Classroom model is an innovative, engaging, and skills based instructional model that gives students the lead!
By flipping the classroom, you will transfer the ownership of learning to your students. This workshop will empower to bravely move away from traditional lecture and explore inquiry based learning as your daily mode of teaching.
Students will explore and engage with content as independent learners in a various multimodal and technology based platforms. In class instruction will consist of inquiry, collaboration, creative design, lively discussion, and student choice.
Your student will learn, thrive, and explore in the engaging flipped classroom that is informed by knowledge of students, student data, and innovative instructional research. You will intentionally use classroom time for engaging with students, providing feedback, and facilitating student inquiry and exploration that relevant to your content and student interests!
During this workshop, Teachers will:
- Explore relevant research of innovative instructional strategies and teaching models.
- Identify the need to increase student engagement in learning in order to promote student achievement and growth.
- Understand the pedagogical purpose, components, and learner outcomes of a flipped classroom model.
- Engage with time allocation, instructional strategies, and various forms of assessment to be implemented in a flipped classroom
- Gain knowledge and understanding of actionable instructional strategies to create a flipped classroom model of their own!
- Experience a variety of scaffolded, cross-curricular, and various grade level lessons created for the flipped classroom.
