Mr. Mark Howard
Former Chief of Performance Accountability,Palm Beach County School District
Mr. Howard served as the Chief of Performance Accountability for the School District of Palm Beach County, Florida, one of the nation’s largest urban districts serving nearly 200,000 students. In this role Mark led the development and implementation of a comprehensive formative assessment system that is aligned to the scope and sequence and includes a highly predictive Diagnostic assessment, which adheres to the State assessment item specifications. In addition, Mark has been a champion of equity leading the development of a disaggregated Principal’s Dashboard used to guide principal coaching and accountability and other data tools to shine the light on student opportunity and performance gaps. Mark was instrumental in leading efforts around master board analysis systems as a driver for equity and continuous school improvement to implement systems that increase student opportunity and achievement. Mr. Howard is also a respected and skilled facilitator and an exceptional presenter of complex subjects including comprehensive data sets and analysis and was a member of Florida Organization for Instructional Leaders (FOIL) advisory Board. Mark began his career as a teacher and coach in the School District of Palm Beach County.
Workshop Description:
Data-driven decision-making can be a critical tool to address resource and opportunity gaps, drive student success, and promote equitable outcomes. Collecting and analyzing relevant data gives insights into student performance, attendance, and disciplinary actions. This workshop will focus on the knowledge and skills to effectively leverage data-driven decision-making in order to drive positive change and improve student outcomes. Participants will learn best practices and how to systematically collect, analyze, and interpret data from various sources to inform their decision-making processes.
Desired Outcomes:
By the end of this workshop, participants will:
- Understand the Importance of data-driven decision making in education
- Recognize how data-driven decision making can positively impact student performance, instructional strategies, resource allocation, and school effectiveness
- Develop Data Literacy and Analytical Skills
- Apply data analysis to gain meaningful insights from student performance, attendance, behavior and other relevant data
- Identify and apply data-driven strategies to identify areas for improvement
- Develop data-driven monitoring and accountability systems to track progress towards goals and ensure effective resource allocation
- Foster a Culture of Data-Driven Decision-Making
- Engage various stakeholders in the data-driven decision-making process
- Communicate data findings and analysis effectively to build trust, ownership, and shared responsibility for school improvement and student achievement

Designed for all educators seeking to advance their professional skills, this workshop applies to PreK-12 settings, across all content/subject areas, and emphasizes the necessary knowledge, skills, and strategies to become effective data-driven educational leaders, capable of making informed decisions that positively impact student outcomes and drive improvement in their schools and districts. Regardless of how you support all of the students in your school, district, or served by your department, this workshop offers invaluable insights and practical strategies for driving school improvement through data-driven decision-making processes.
ALL are welcome, including anyone in a non-administrative position!
Participants will earn .5 credit (7.5 hours) toward license renewal!
This workshop ALSO counts for step advancement in Clark, Washoe and most Nevada School Districts!

In CCSD, those in non-administrative licensed positions may count this workshop for license renewal AND ALSO 2.5 CUs - THOSE IN NON-ADMINISTRATIVE POSITIONS EARN BOTH!
In CCSD, administrators and professional-technical administrators may count this workshop for license renewal OR 2.5 hours toward step-advancement - not both for administrators.
Washoe County participants will be required to also register for this course in "MyPGS" in order to receive in-service credit toward salary advancement.
Washoe County School District (WCSD) participants are required to submit a 300-word essay on how they will implement this professional learning to increase student achievement before a certificate is issued.
