Workshop Description:

Teachers hold hundreds of teaching goals simultaneously in their heads as they plan and execute their plans. All the goals lead to the teacher’s intention to engage every student’s mind in the learning. This central intention, cognitive engagement of all the students, is the most eagerly pursued goal, the most sought after, the “holy grail.”

This 7.5 hour workshop digs into what actual cognitive engagement is, and explores 30 ways teachers can coax, invite, and ensure that even the most reluctant learners will get involved in the learning, and enjoy doing it.

During this course you will enjoy the actual strategies that will work with your students, from ways to ask questions so that most of the students answer them, to grouping patterns that are instantly employed during a lesson.

Additionally, you will become aware of some things that teachers unknowingly do that allow students to be disengaged. You’ll learn about the most often and least effective question that teachers ask. Administrators and instructional coaches will benefit from this course as they play an important role in supporting teachers by offering valuable feedback.

ALL are welcome, including anyone in a non-administrative position!

Participants will earn .5 credit (7.5 hours) toward license renewal!

This workshop ALSO counts for step advancement in Clark and most Nevada School Districts!
