Due to Washoe County School District (WCSD) salary advancement requirements, WCSD participants will be asked to submit a brief written summation of how this professional learning event will transfer learning into practice before a certificate is issued. WCSD participants: please use the link provided on the Guidance/Link sheet for each event to submit. Lastly, when completing events that are (1) or more credits, please submit your tracker to the PGS Department in Washoe and to ahendersonnasa@gmail.com

Rosanne Richards

Rosanne Richards currently serves as the Executive Director in the Office of the Chief of Staff, Equity, and Community Partnerships with the Clark County School District. Ms. Richards has been with the Clark County School District for 23 years, and always puts the needs of students at the forefront of her work. Ms. Richards' journey began as a teacher at the elementary level before she moved to middle school early in her career. Ms. Richards served as a project facilitator, literacy trainer, dean of students, and an administrator in central office. Additionally, working in central office and in the field, Ms. Richards understands the importance of supporting schools and has an unwavering commitment to lead with a growth mindset and a dedication to student achievement.

Ms. Richards earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and Accounting, Master of Science in Education, and earned a Master of Science in Leadership and Educational Administration. Ms. Richards currently serves as the NASA Nevada Central Office Administrators’ Association President and the CCASAPE Central Office/Professional Technical lead. Additionally, Ms. Richards serves on multiple local community boards and national organizations in education.

Workshop Description:

Modern society widely adopts social media as a primary source of news. However, regrettably, it can serve as a distraction for students. The workshop titled "Understanding the Impact of Social Media and Implementing Strategies to Support Students" aims to address this challenge by offering guidance and resources on integrating social media into the classroom effectively. The interactive workshop will involve participants in the development and implementation of lesson plans. As we strive to fortify foundational skills for students, the workshop will particularly emphasize the cultivation and enrichment of critical thinking abilities.

Outcomes:

Participants in this workshop will delve into the nuanced realm of social media integration within instructional planning, critically analyzing its appropriate applications. The focus extends beyond mere usage to deliberate strategies, as participants actively craft a thoughtful approach aimed at nurturing students' critical thinking skills.

ALL are welcome, including anyone in a non-administrative position!

Participants will earn .5 credit (7.5 hours) toward license renewal!

This workshop ALSO counts for step advancement in Clark and most Nevada School Districts!

In CCSD, those in non-administrative licensed positions may count this workshop for license renewal AND ALSO 2.5 CUs - THOSE IN NON-ADMINISTRATIVE POSITIONS EARN BOTH!

In CCSD, administrators and professional-technical administrators may count this workshop for license renewal OR 2.5 hours toward step-advancement - not both for administrators.

Washoe County participants will be required to also register for this course in "MyPGS" in order to receive in-service credit toward salary advancement.
