Workshop Description:
Performance Standards and Indicators give educators a guide to the most important actions required of teachers and administrators in developing and maintaining effective instruction. This work supports strong academic achievement and provides a resource for educators to continually dialogue about improving educator performance. Developing strong teachers and administrators who can craft a shared vision and mission allows all students to grow and thrive.
This workshop is designed to help educators review standards and develop a more comprehensive idea of what evidence can support each standard. The work during these 30 hours of instruction, group work and independent work is designed to allow educators to gather ideas from each other, recognize their roles in providing and supporting evidence for each standard, and using student responses and formative data to improve instruction. This is interactive and meant to develop a richer understanding of the power of standards and how use of the evidence can inform teacher and administrator work toward sustainable and effective student learning.
Purpose: To discuss effective instruction and leadership needed to help students meet academic targets. This series of three workshops will examine the use of and interconnectivity of high leverage standards and practices in improving instruction.
Intended Audience: These workshops are designed to support teachers’ instructional growth and improvement while informing administrators of ways to support this growth and improvement. This is a fundamental discussion of how standards help improve and support instruction. While the workshop is open to all educators, the content is specifically designed for new and nearly new teachers and administrators. Others may find the refresher helpful, the content will be familiar.
Credit and Required Attendance Hours: This workshop consists of 20 hours of on-line learning with 10 hours of small group and written work for a total of 30 hours which is two (2) credits. The hours will include direct instruction with the instructor(s), small group work and homework. All participants are required to attend direct instruction and group work and complete homework to get credit. No exceptions.
