$50 for NASA Members 

$75 for Non-NASA Members

Due to Washoe County School District (WCSD) salary advancement requirements, WCSD participants will be asked to submit a brief written summation of how this professional learning event will transfer learning into practice before a certificate is issued. WCSD participants: please use the link provided on the Guidance/Link sheet for each event to submit. Lastly, when completing events that are (1) or more credits, please submit your tracker to the PGS Department in Washoe and to ahendersonnasa@gmail.com

Workshop Description:

This all-day PD will comprise various culturally responsive practices for educators and staff such as:

Creating Safe Spaces in the Classroom Amplifying the voices of our EL students The benefits of Culturally Responsive Curriculum, Global Education Frameworks Trauma Informed Teaching and Practices to name some

All PreK-12 participants in this comprehensive workshop on culturally responsive practices for educators and staff promises to yield a host of positive outcomes. By ensuring learning activities are supportive of all learners, educators will be learning skills and strategies that encourage engagement and help all students make meaning of the ever changing world we live in. Ultimately, the knowledge and skills gained from this workshop is poised to contribute significantly to closing achievement gaps and assisting teachers in developing lessons that captivate and resonate with a diverse student body.

Key Objectives/Agenda:

The key objectives of this all day PD is to arm the staff with the necessary tools and inspiration to ensure a more inclusive, trauma-informed, and 21st century school setting for each student to thrive.

Tangible Outcomes:

Participants will walk away with tools and best practices needed to take their teaching and leadership to another level in their respective roles for the sake of inclusivity, deeper student engagement, and school-wide impact.

Sofia Gonzalez stands out as a nationally acclaimed educator and a visionary leader in the field of education. Her achievements have earned her the prestigious Educator of the Year award, highlighting her significant contributions. Sofia is actively involved in the nonprofit sector, particularly with Project 214, where she is dedicated to transforming the educational landscape. Apart from her educational endeavors, Sofia is a captivating podcast host, sharing her insights and experiences to inspire others. Her activism in education is relentless, and she is recognized as a dynamic public speaker, especially in the Chicagoland area. Her presentations are known for being groundbreaking, and her passion for education is both contagious and influential. With over 15 years of experience in teaching, Sofia is more than just a high school teacher; she is a seasoned and trailblazing veteran in education. Her impact extends far beyond the classroom. She is affiliated with prestigious organizations such as Fulbright, Latinos for Education, and the Urban Leaders Fellowship. In her current role as a School Ambassador Fellow with the US Department of Education, she continues to make a significant impact. Sofia's commitment to educational equity is unwavering. ​Participants will earn .5 credit (7.5 hours) toward license renewal!

This workshop ALSO counts for step advancement in Clark and most Nevada School Districts! & In CCSD, those in non-administrative licensed positions may count this workshop for license

renewal AND ALSO CU accrual - THOSE IN NON-ADMINISTRATIVE POSITIONS EARN BOTH!

In CCSD, administrators and professional-technical administrators may count this workshop for license renewal OR hour accrual toward step-advancement - not both for administrators.

Washoe County participants will be required to also register for this course in "MyPGS" in order to receive in-service credit toward salary advancement.
