Due to Washoe County School District (WCSD) salary advancement requirements, WCSD participants will be asked to submit a brief written summation of how this professional learning event will transfer learning into practice before a certificate is issued. WCSD participants: please use the link provided on the Guidance/Link sheet for each event to submit. Lastly, when completing events that are (1) or more credits, please submit your tracker to the PGS Department in Washoe and to ahendersonnasa@gmail.com

ALL are welcome, including anyone in a non-administrative position!

Participants will earn .5 credit (7.5 hours) toward license renewal!

This workshop ALSO counts for step advancement in Clark and most Nevada School Districts!

In CCSD, those in non-administrative licensed positions may count this workshop for license renewal AND ALSO 2.5 CUs - THOSE IN NON-ADMINISTRATIVE POSITIONS EARN BOTH!

(unlimited CUs in this category for those in non-administrative positions)

In CCSD, administrators and professional-technical administrators may count this workshop for license renewal OR 2.5 hours toward step-advancement - not both for administrators.

(maximum of 30 hours per advancement cycle for administrators in this category)!

Washoe County participants will be required to also register for this course in "MyPGS" in order to receive in-service credit toward salary advancement.

Rosanne Richards currently serves as the Executive Director in the Office of the Chief of Staff, Equity, and Community Partnerships with the Clark County School District. Ms. Richards has been with the Clark County School District for 23 years, and always puts the needs of students at the forefront of her work. Ms. Richards' journey began as a teacher at the elementary level before she moved to middle school early in her career. Ms. Richards served as a project facilitator, literacy trainer, dean of students, and an administrator in central office. Additionally, working in central office and in the field, Ms. Richards understands the importance of supporting schools and has an unwavering commitment to lead with a growth mindset and a dedication to student achievement.

Ms. Richards earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and Accounting, Master of Science in Education, and earned a Master of Science in Leadership and Educational Administration. Ms. Richards currently serves as the NASA Nevada Central Office Administrators’ Association President and the CCASAPE Central Office/Professional Technical lead. Additionally, Ms. Richards serves on multiple local community boards and national organizations in education.

Description: In this workshop, participants will acquire strategies for improving writing skills with their students and their staff. As educators, there are many opportunities for professional writing and reporting. Additionally, outside of the English Language Arts classroom, students need to acquire skills to write professional documents and often engage in dialogue and build practical skills. The session aims to offer valuable insights and practical techniques for comprehending the intricacies of writing while laying the groundwork for personal and professional growth in dialogue and collaboration. Attendees will leave with a comprehensive understanding of the tools needed to guide students in navigating the intricacies of writing preparation and professional reporting ensuring they are equipped with the knowledge and skills required for success.

Outcomes: During this workshop, participants will engage in collaborative activities focused on refining their writing skills with hands-on exercises. By the end of the session, attendees will not only have honed their own writing skills, but will also possess valuable insights and resources to effectively coach students in detailed reporting, dialogue, and descriptive writing.
